Time to go across the border and tackle the Crows.

I reckon we're in with a good show - we match up well against them, their forward line is depleted, plus no Smart, and surely we've had a bit of a kick up the bum this week after 3 losses in a row. Time will tell...

No Smart should hopefully provide Tarrant with an easier opponent.

The key will be we can curb their midfield. Goodwin normally plays very well against us. But in the past Licuria has been able to shut down McLeod. Can Licuria do this again ?? Clarke and Biglands will need to be given more of a challenge in the ruck than they faced in Wizz Fizz Cup.

Holefully we can put up a good contest. No Melbourne team has won interstate this year. Lets hope we are the first.

Licuria will need to play well on McLeod and Goodwin is another danger. With the loss of Smart our forward line should be causing them problems this week. I think Wakelin will get Carey. What are other peoples thoughts for Careys oppenent?

Well i know i said this last week against Sydney, but i really beleive this week we will c ome out and play with guts, passion and as if our life is on the line. Now is the time to prove the critics wrong and play into some form...

The main concern for me in this game is the Crow's ruck and midfield. We were really outclassed in the Wiz Cup final in the ruck so this is one area that we need to pay serious attention to. McKee and Joshy will have to be at their best.

The Crows have such a powerful engine room so this is where the game will be won I beleive. We need Bucks, Woey, Lica and the likes to be able to control Goodwin, McLeod, Ricciuto etc and get first use of the ball. A major aspect of beating the Crows midfield will be whether or not we can remember how to tackle, man up and put on some serious pressure.

Without Smart, the Crows will really struggle aainst our forwards, i know i said that last week too though and it didnt happen. Taz should continue his form and lets hope Pebbles has a big one.

Who does everyoen think will get Carey?? Ii think he'll be a big danger for us., Hes a top player and will test our defence in their current form and frame of mind.

The big advantage this week is that were gross under dogs and that seems to be the position the pies relish. We do well against good sides but struggles against sides that we should pump. Also we are Football Park specialists so im quite confident we can find soem form in this game.

Should be a hard fought, close contest all night.

Pies by 8 points.

Tough Game. A win here can reverse most of the last 3 weeks.

Who can forget our 2nd 1/4 last year for this game? Also (I'm getting in early bagging the umps) who can remember the maggots giving them a free ride in the last? What's a bet carey kicks 10 and breaks down next week. Enough negativity.

We will win this game, the pressure is on certainly, and it's payback time from the Wiz Cup. Let's hope they run, run, run, and when they're too tired to run, run some more. And I do mean running in numbers, too often this year I have seen players left to fend on their own, rather than being backed up. I remember talk last year especially of how MM basically instructed the players to take on the umpires in taking their time to dispose of the ball, so that we can keep possesion. I think this is being taken too far and is actually harming our running game. Sure we don't want to turn it over without looking (Presti), but we need them to give plenty of options to the bloke with the ball. Shut the SA feral crowd up early (sorry SA Magpies), and we might get an even break from the maggots (dream).

Definatly Anthony C. Our running game seems to have disappeared. We need to have runners ahead of the ball and link up through defence and the middle much more efficiently. Most importantly we need to deleiver much quicker into the forward line to give our forwards a chance, AND the delivery needs to give our forwards every chance of marking the ball.

Its easy to see whats wrong, not so easy to do something about it.

One last thing boys...

I would be more concerned about Ian Perrie and their lesser known players. Wayne Carey is not worth losing sleep over.

I agree with you JLC Perrie is a key for them and needs to be shut down. He presented well for them last week and in the Wizard Cup Grand Final he played a good game.

Game day

Huge game, I think this is the first time we're going to see the real Pies come out and play since the GF last year. Its going to be a very tough game and we have to start running the ball out of defence. Expect Rocca to have a huge one, he know when he needs to lift, and I expect the backline to be much tighter and fiercer. Many players are on pretty much their last chances so it will be interesting to see how they go.

Hesitancy and not moving the ball quickly into the forward line seemed to be a big problem last week - Im not sure if it was under instruction but from what MM has been saying, no. maybe it is a case of after watching the ball get run out of the backline with ease repeatedly by the opposition resultling in easy goals the players get afraid of that happening and don't move it in in an attacking fashion. But you have to anyway to win take the chances, I think it's better to lose by 10 having a go than lose by a lot less by adopting damage control attitudes.
ANyway that is pretty much what MM has been saying so hopefully it will happen. But I think they do have to change tactics to avoid our forward line becoming clogged and the opposition's open, that is a sure recipe for disaster and saps confidence. Adelaide don't seem to be much of a flooding team (though I'm not sure) so it might not be much of an issue.
But obviously TAz who is shaping as a genuine star, plays much better if he's got a bit of room. I think if Pagan had him he might be employing the full paddock again.

I reckon they ought to give Molloy a run in the backline as they need some grunt and presence there and he's not going well up forward, and he was originally touted as an option either forward or back anyway. AS far as I know his disposal is pretty reliable. Any comments on that?

yeah i agree with you bokko, we need some added presence in the backline, as cloke is not having the same impact as he did last year down there (whether thats cos he has been playing up forward as well, or the opposition are now able to expose his lack of experience i don't know?)
But molloy would be good down their, maybe even on carey? Who knows, perhaps a bit of heat and aggression between the players in this game might boost our confidence and intensity this week. I honestly think were capable of being the best in the league but our hesitance, intensity and commitment have been letting us down recently.

I reckon Rocca should start on the ball, and get him into the game quickly. Their ruckmen are not all that physically strong, and hopefully if it is a disputed ball in the centre, our midfielders will get their share. If Adelaide are allowed to take it out of the centre, then we will be in trouble again.

This is a back to basics game for me. I say we should throw Rocca to CHF, Taz to FF, start with bux, burns, lica, ob in the center. Time to get back to doing the 1%'s. Run for each other, provide an option. Cloke to play across half back no matter who is there...presti and wakes with johnno on the full back line. Put everyone back into the possies they know and played well in last year. Our backline was great last year in being able to help out their mates....they play positions well, not necessarily players. Let there be a mismatch if need be, the "mates" can help out. We need those 2 V 1's again.

Dids to start on the bench. Wait for the game intensity to drop that first 5 mins worth and then unleash him at half forward. Leon and dids should be on at the same time, in the same area.

Pies by 2 points with bux to kick the winner from 55 with 80 seconds to go...pies in the crowd go nuts (along with me at home) and the boys look back on this one as the one that kick started a season.
