Round 14 - Box Hill vs Collingwood at Box Hill City Oval

Post by MagpieBat »

1:10PM this Saturday at Whitehorse Road.

We have a special treat this weekend, with regards to broadcasting. Not only are we on television, but we are also on radio as well!

The TV broadcast is on ABC1, as always. Broadcast starts at 1:00PM.

The radio call is being provided by 3WBC, who call all of Box Hill's VFL games (lucky beggars...). 3WBC will start its broadcast at 12 noon, with a 1 hour pre-game show, before the match starts at 1:10pm. You can find 3WBC on 94.1FM (reception tends to be best in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It is a community radio station on the FM band, after all.) But for those who can't pick it up, fear not, as it can be streamed here:

http://srv1.mel.apstream.net/3wbc_relay

(3WBC recommend using Windows Media Player)

This will, in all probability, be our last match broadcast on either radio or TV, unless we make it to the finals. CFC will, of course, be providing the usual LiveChat on the club website.

Box Hill sits in 9th place (3 wins, 7 losses, 3 byes). Collingwood sits in 10th place (3 wins, 8 losses, 2 byes). Both teams are on 12 points, with Collingwood trailing on percentage.

We have lost our last 5 games. This weekend effectively represents our last roll of the dice to make the finals, as our next game is against Port Melbourne who are not looking likely to be beaten on current form. Our VFL team needs to sweep at least 6 of the next 7 games to make the finals. We need some really big wins too, to make up our percentage.

Unfortunately, our run home includes the aforementioned Port Melbourne (unbeaten and front-runners for the flag), Williamstown (beat us by 5 goals in round 8, although without Barry Hall they could be vulnerable), and Bendigo (who smashed us in round 4 by 12 goals, but injuries to the Essendon list could make things interesting).

Also in our run home are Geelong at the Kattery, as well as Frankston and Sandringham at Victoria Park, and two more byes.

Now I know our VFL side is primarily to develop the kids on our list, but who doesn't want our boys to win? A VFL team that makes it to the finals can at least provide some players on the fringe of the senior 22 with some match fitness, and place pressure on competition for spots.

And speaking of selections...

The casulty ward at Waverley Park is filling up fast, which will hollow out the ranks of Hawthorn's 2nd stringers currently playing for Box Hill. As for us, we are regaining personnel if anything. Macaffer will likely play again, as might Johnson and maybe even Jolly if the match committee decides to give Cameron Wood one more hit out against a quality side. However, if Jolly is selected for the seniors, then we get Wood back.

Someone like Goldsack or McCarthy might get dropped back to the VFL for a debutant for Sunday. Ceglar should also return as well to provide extra ruck support and a target up forward to cover for the loss of Brett Eddy. Buckley is another possibility too.

And then there is the eternal question of whether Josh Thomas can get out on the ground. Hope he gets better soon... our VFL side needs him. Ben Sinclair is the other one who can hopefully come back from injury, fingers crossed.

On the other hand, emergencies for the Sunday game against Hawthorn will likely be held over or play limited game time, guys like Keefe, Rounds, Young and Fasolo. The usual suspects on our VFL list will have to deliver again, as they usually do. And here's hoping for another "Coburg game" from big Shae Mac.

Anyways, should be a good game, and perhaps a victory is not out of the question. Here's hoping for a win.

Go Pies!

Great to finally see him back, but I'll only be pumping my fist when I see Josh and his number 25 running out onto the ground at the City Oval at 1:00PM on Saturday.

Good luck Josh, and here's hoping you've finally put your rotten run of injuries behind you.

Others observations...

Shae Mac at CHB? That's got to be a first?
Ceglar back, named as starting ruck.
Stubbs back, named for the first time this season?
No 23rd player named in the initial 30 man squad.
And no Cameron Wood...

Nah, can't make it this week. I'll be watching on TV...

Though the two are easily distinguishable, Josh is blonde and Tom is a redhead...
